About Us
Skirmishing is a unique sport. We shoot American Civil War firearms in a timed competition against the stopwatch. Teams compete in several different categories of arms, from Muskets and Repeating Rifles to Revolvers and Cannons.
WHO WE
ARE
Welcome to the N-SSA's Potomac Region!
We are an association, a community; built on a shared passion for American history, competitive shooting, and most of all, enduring camaraderie.
We're more than just a group of shooters, we're a dedicated family of enthusiasts that are committed to preserving the past while engaging in the present - in our sport.
OUR
STORY
The Potomac Region is one of the oldest and most distinguished regions within the N-SSA.
Our roots run deep, with several of our teams being among the founding units of the entire association back in 1950.
We proudly represent members from Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware, with our events taking place at the N-SSA's home range, the historic Fort Shenandoah near Winchester, Virginia.
OUR HISTORY, OUR SPORT
Our mission is a blend of historical preservation and modern-day competition. We believe in honoring the legacy of the Civil War by using original or (approved) authentic reproduction firearms and wearing period-correct uniforms. The skirmishes we host are exciting, live-fire events where teams compete for accuracy and speed using muskets, carbines, artillery, and more! Whether you're a seasoned competitor or have never held a musket before, we offer a unique experience that combines the discipline of marksmanship with the rich tradition of living history.
The Potomac Region is a tight-knit community, and we welcome new members of all ages and skill levels. If you're looking for a challenging hobby, a place to learn about Civil War history, or simply a group that feels like family, you've come to the right place. We invite you to explore our upcoming events and find a team to join. Come be a part of our legacy and help us keep history alive!
