The North-South Skirmish Association (N-SSA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of the American Civil War, through the live-fire sport of competitive marksman shooting with period-specific firearm, artillery, and uniforms.

A skirmish is a timed, live-fire competition where teams shoot at breakable targets (clay pigeons, ceramic tile, wood blocks, etc.) using original or approved reproduction arms.

The skirmish is generally hosted by one or two teams, allowing for all other teams to participate. The Potomac Region has several regionals, and you will also see events from other regions listed on our schedule. Some events have a unique name, like the "Halloween Shoot" or the "Early Bird Skirmish."

Skirmishes are generally Friday afternoon through Sunday. While the bulk of the action is the team competitions, competitors can also enter and shoot individual paper targets. Individual events are generally classified into 4 categories for shooters, depending on expertise level.
