Potomac Region Recruitment Skirmish

The first-ever Potomac Regional Recruit Skirmish was hosted on September 13, 2025 from 08:00 - 16:00

Recruits started arriving at 09:00 and after an ease of checking in and distributing the potential recruits we tallied a total of 20 new recruits who discovered the wonderful world of Skirmishing! They were each paired with a knowledgeable mentor spanning, over 3 different regions who arrived to help out.

I had north of 50+ mentors (in numbers) come out and offer assistance. When the event started we had the recruits, with their mentors, arrive and gather around for the safety briefing and they were instructed by Rob Harrison with his influential and knowledgeable ways - instruct the recruits of how to properly load and fire a musket. After the presentation the tower over the PA system called out the commands and instructed the recruits to their positions and the course of fire was under way.

Each relay the recruits grew more and more confident and after several relays had transpired there was a break for lunch which was donated and served in honor of Mr. Chester Lauck (Hazelwood Volunteers). After lunch the recruits were called back to the line and then placed into teams. We had a total of four 5-man teams and the excellence shown forth immediately.

These recruits were no joke! And pardon the pun, took to it like a fish to water! These teams showed great promise and several of the mentors were astonished by the evolution of this recruit class in their skills. The final results were in order:

1st Place Potomac Recruit Skirmish Team - Team #3 - 2025
1st Place Potomac Recruit Skirmish Team - Team #3 - 2025
2nd Place Potomac Recruit Skirmish Team - Team #2 - 2025
2nd Place Potomac Recruit Skirmish Team - Team #2 - 2025
3rd Place Potomac Recruit Skirmish Team - Team #1 - 2025
3rd Place Potomac Recruit Skirmish Team - Team #1 - 2025

After the scores were tallied and medals presented to both the best individual shooters and the teams - we presented them with an artillery demonstration provided by the Potomac’s own Dulaney troop and the Hazelwood Volunteers.

These groups not only educated the guests but also allowed them to participate in the demonstrations which was almost the hook immediately to get them over that line.

Unofficial reports tell that of the 20 potential recruits as many as 15 have approached multiple respective teams wanting to join the ranks!
